Privacy

This is a plain-English summary of how shofa.social handles your information. The full privacy notice will be published before launch (placeholder). Shofa Ltd (placeholder) is the data controller, ICO registration ZA000000 (placeholder).

What we collect

  • Your mobile number, to sign you in with a one-time code. It isn't shown to anyone.
  • Your date of birth and gender, to show your age and the right people, though your date of birth itself is never shown.
  • Your profile and the photos you publish.
  • Check-ins, waves, matches and bookings, to run the app and look into reports.
  • Your email, only if you add one for notifications.
  • What you send through the forms on this site. The member form asks for your email and town. The cafe form also asks for the cafe's name, a contact name and, if you give them, a phone number and Google Maps link. shofa.social stores them and passes them to the team's internal notification channel. We use them only to tell you when a shofa.social cafe opens near you or to contact your cafe about joining.
  • Town search uses Photon, a place-search service run by Komoot. It receives what you type in a form's town box and your IP address to suggest matching towns.

How long your photos are kept

  1. Cafe staff take the set of photos in the cafe, with live capture.
  2. You choose up to 4 to publish. Every photo you don't choose is deleted straight away.
  3. Published photos stay on your profile until you replace them. After 12 months you'll be asked to reshoot. The old ones stay up until the new ones replace them.
  4. If you delete your account, your profile and all your photos will be deleted straight away.

The photo ID staff check at your shoot isn't photographed or stored.

Who sees what

  • You appear in Here now only to people of the opposite gender, within each other's age range, who are checked in at the same cafe.
  • Signed-out visitors see cafe information only. Members never appear on the public website.
  • Profiles don't show anyone's name. Notifications name the cafe and show no photo.
  • Cafe staff see bookings at their shofa table.
  • A chaperone's link shows where and when one meeting is, with the other person's first photo and basics. It stops working when the meeting ends.
