How to write a marriage CV

A marriage CV, or rishta CV, is a one-page summary families share when looking for a match. It usually covers your age, background, education and work, how you practise, family details, and what you're looking for, often with a photo. Keep it honest, short and current. Agree with your family who sees it.

What goes in it

  • About you, with age, height, where you live, languages, marital status and children.
  • Faith, with how you practise in a sentence of your own and your madhab if it matters to you.
  • Education and work.
  • Family: parents, siblings and where the family is from.
  • Looking for, with the qualities and plans that matter most and your timeframe.
  • Contact: usually the number of a parent or the wali.

How it maps to a shofa.social profile

A shofa.social profile covers most of the same ground, with a few differences for privacy. There's no name, only a short code like #K4P2. Your age is shown, never your date of birth. Up to 4 photos are taken by cafe staff and marked with where and when. About me and Looking for each take 300 characters. Contact details are rejected, because numbers are swapped in person, if at all. Your profile also says whether you're happy to bring a chaperone.
